Weight Watchers Homemade Caramel Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup fat-free evaporated milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Allow the mixture to come to a boil without stirring. Swirl the pan occasionally to ensure even caramelization.
- Continue cooking until the sugar turns a deep amber color. Be attentive and watch carefully to avoid burning.
- Once the desired color is achieved, remove the pan from heat and carefully whisk in the evaporated milk. The mixture will bubble, so be cautious.
- Return the pan to low heat and whisk until smooth.
- Add the butter, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Continue whisking until the butter is fully melted and the caramel is smooth and well combined.
- Remove the caramel sauce from heat and let it cool slightly before transferring it to a jar or container.
- Allow the caramel sauce to cool completely before sealing the container.
