Weight Watchers, now known as WW, is a popular and well-known weight loss and wellness program that focuses on helping individuals achieve their health and weight goals through a combination of healthy eating, physical activity, and behavior change. WW has been around for decades and has evolved over the years to accommodate various dietary preferences and lifestyles. Here’s an explanation of how WW generally works:

SmartPoints System: WW uses a unique point system called SmartPoints to assign values to foods based on their nutritional content. Each member is given a daily SmartPoints target based on factors like age, gender, weight, and activity level. Foods and drinks are assigned SmartPoint values based on their calories, protein, saturated fat, and sugar content. The goal is to stay within your daily SmartPoints budget while making nutritious choices.
ZeroPoint Foods: In addition to daily SmartPoints, WW offers a list of ZeroPoint foods. These are foods that you can enjoy without counting their SmartPoint values. The list includes many fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. ZeroPoint foods are meant to encourage the consumption of healthier options.
Personalized Approach: WW recognizes that one size does not fit all. The program offers different plans (such as myWW) that members can choose from based on their preferences and dietary needs. These plans have different food lists and SmartPoints allocations.
Activity Points: WW encourages physical activity by assigning SmartPoints values to exercise. Members can earn additional SmartPoints through physical activity, which they can choose to use for extra food or save for special occasions.
Weekly FlexPoints: In addition to daily SmartPoints, members receive a weekly allowance of FlexPoints, which they can use for indulgences or special occasions. These FlexPoints provide flexibility and help members stay on track while enjoying treats occasionally.
Support and Accountability: WW offers support through in-person meetings (formerly known as Weight Watchers meetings), virtual workshops, or the WW app. Members can track their food intake, activity, and progress using the app. They can also connect with a supportive community of fellow members.
Behavioral Strategies: WW emphasizes behavior change techniques, including mindfulness and portion control, to help members make sustainable and long-term changes to their eating habits.
