Creamed Chipped Beef

Creamed Chipped Beef

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups of whole milk
  • 8 ounces of dried beef, sliced into thin strips
  • 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
  • Toast or biscuits, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Melt Butter: In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Make Roux: Add the flour to the melted butter, stirring continuously, to form a roux. Cook for about 1 minute until it turns light brown.
  3. Add Milk: Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook and stir until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add Beef: Add the sliced dried beef to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
  5. Season: Add the black pepper and stir. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Be cautious with salt since the dried beef is already salty.
  6. Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for a few more minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  7. Serve: Serve hot over toasted bread or biscuits.

Tips:

  • Dried Beef: You can find dried beef in jars or packets near the canned meats in most grocery stores.
  • Thickness: If the sauce is too thick, you can thin it with a little more milk. If it’s too thin, cook it a bit longer to thicken.
  • Variations: For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of Worcestershire sauce.

Enjoy your Creamed Chipped Beef on toast or biscuits for a hearty meal!
