Air Fryer Scotch Egg

  1. Hard-boiled eggs (as many as you want to make)
  2. Sausage meat or ground sausage (pork or a combination of pork and beef)
  3. Breadcrumbs
  4. Flour
  5. Beaten eggs (for egg wash)
  6. Salt and pepper to taste
  7. Olive oil or cooking spray (for the air fryer)

  1. Start by hard-boiling your eggs. Place the eggs in a saucepan, cover them with water, and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer for about 9-12 minutes. Then, immediately transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  2. While the eggs are cooling, prepare the sausage mixture. Season the sausage meat with salt and pepper, and mix it well.
  3. Once the hard-boiled eggs have cooled, peel them.
  4. Take a portion of the sausage meat and flatten it in your hand. Place a peeled egg in the center of the sausage meat and carefully mold the sausage meat around the egg, ensuring it’s completely covered.
  5. Roll the sausage-covered egg in flour, then dip it in beaten egg, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs. Ensure that the entire Scotch egg is evenly coated with breadcrumbs.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to around 375°F (190°C).
  7. Lightly brush or spray the Scotch eggs with a little olive oil or cooking spray. This will help them brown and crisp up in the air fryer.
  8. Place the Scotch eggs in the air fryer basket, leaving some space between them.
  9. Air fry the Scotch eggs for about 15-20 minutes, turning them halfway through the cooking time. The exact time may vary depending on your air fryer, so keep an eye on them and adjust as needed. They should be golden brown and cooked through when done.
  10. Once they’re cooked, remove the Scotch eggs from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes.
  11. Serve your air fryer Scotch eggs warm or at room temperature. They make a great appetizer, snack, or addition to a picnic….
