Homemade plantain chips recipe
Ingredients
– 2-3 green or slightly ripe plantains
– Vegetable oil (for frying)
– Salt (to taste)
Instructions
– Cut off the ends of the plantains and make a shallow slit along the length of the skin.
– Peel the plantains by prying off the skin along the slit.
– Using a sharp knife or a mandoline, slice the plantains into thin rounds or diagonal slices (about 1/8-inch thick).
– In a large frying pan or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). You need enough oil to fully submerge the plantain slices.
– Carefully add a handful of plantain slices to the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
– Fry the slices for about 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy.
– Remove the fried plantain chips from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain.
– Immediately season with salt to taste while they are still hot.
– Let the chips cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them as a snack or a side dish!
