Keto Coddled Egg

Ingredients:

  • 1 large egg (or more, depending on servings)
  • 1 teaspoon butter (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh herbs (optional: chives, parsley, etc.)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Water:
    • Fill a small saucepan with water, enough to cover the egg by about an inch.
    • Bring the water to a gentle simmer (around 180-190°F or 82-88°C). You don’t want the water to be boiling.
  2. Coddle the Egg:
    • Crack the egg into a small, heatproof bowl or ramekin (or directly into the simmering water using a spoon if you prefer).
    • Gently lower the bowl with the egg into the simmering water. Make sure the water comes up around the sides of the egg but doesn’t overflow.
    • Let the egg cook for about 3-5 minutes. The exact time depends on how runny or set you want the yolk. For a runny yolk, aim for closer to 3 minutes; for a firmer yolk, go closer to 5 minutes.
  3. Serve:
    • Carefully remove the egg from the water and let it drain.
    • If you used a bowl, gently slide the egg out onto a plate.
    • Top with a small pat of butter, salt, and pepper, and any herbs you like.

Tips:

  • For flavor variation, you can add a sprinkle of grated cheese or some avocado slices on the side.
  • Coddling multiple eggs: If you are preparing multiple eggs, make sure to cook them one at a time for the best results.
