Keto Mozzarella Sticks
Ingredients
- 10 sticks of mozzarella cheese (string cheese works well)
- 1 cup almond flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup pork rind crumbs (or use crushed pork rinds)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying (avocado oil or coconut oil are good options)
Instructions
- Prepare the Cheese Sticks:
- Cut the mozzarella sticks in half if they are long.
- Freeze the cheese sticks for about 30 minutes to 1 hour. This step helps prevent them from melting too quickly during frying.
- Set Up Breading Station:
- In one shallow dish, combine almond flour with garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- In a second dish, beat the eggs until well mixed.
- In a third dish, place the pork rind crumbs.
- Bread the Cheese Sticks:
- Dip each cheese stick in the almond flour mixture, coating it well.
- Dip it into the beaten eggs, ensuring it’s fully covered.
- Roll it in the pork rind crumbs until fully coated. You can repeat the egg and pork rind crumb steps for a thicker coating.
- Place the coated sticks on a tray and freeze them for at least 1 hour. This helps the coating adhere better during frying.
- Fry the Cheese Sticks:
- Heat the oil in a deep pan or fryer to about 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the cheese sticks in batches, about 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve:
- Serve hot with a low-carb marinara sauce or your favorite keto-friendly dipping sauce.
