Italian Crescent Casserole

Ingredients:-

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey or chicken
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can reduced-fat crescent roll dough
  • 1 1/2 cups part-skim shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Optional: Chopped vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms

Instructions:-

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground turkey or chicken until it’s no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the tomato sauce, oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and any optional vegetables to the skillet. Simmer the mixture for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Remove from heat.
  4. Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it into the bottom of the prepared baking dish, creating a crust. Make sure to press the seams together to seal them.
  5. Spread the meat sauce evenly over the crescent roll crust.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the meat sauce.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the crescent roll crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
