Homemade Beefaroni
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese (optional for topping)
- Fresh parsley or basil for garnish
Instructions:
- Cook the pasta:
Cook elbow macaroni according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside. - Cook the ground beef:
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and garlic, cooking until the beef is no longer pink and the onions are soft. - Add the sauce:
Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, paprika, sugar (if using), salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. - Combine the pasta and sauce:
Add the cooked macaroni to the skillet and stir until the pasta is well coated with the beef and tomato sauce. Cook for another 5 minutes to let everything come together. - Optional cheese topping:
If you prefer a cheesy topping, transfer the beefaroni to a baking dish, sprinkle shredded cheese on top, and bake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly. - Serve:
Garnish with fresh parsley or basil, and serve hot!
