Home Made Deep Dish Pizza Casserole
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup non-fat Greek yogurt
For the Pizza Casserole:
- 1 pound lean ground turkey or chicken
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 cup pizza sauce (look for a lower-sugar option)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 1/2 cups part-skim mozzarella cheese, shredded
- Optional toppings: cherry tomatoes, black olives, turkey pepperoni (consider adjusting points accordingly)
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the Greek yogurt and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth.
3. Casserole Assembly:
- Press the dough into the bottom and up the sides of a greased deep-dish casserole dish.
4. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground turkey or chicken until browned. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Cook until the vegetables are softened.
5. Stir in the pizza sauce, oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
6. Spread the turkey mixture over the prepared dough in the casserole dish.
7. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.
8. Add your desired toppings, such as cherry tomatoes, black olives, or turkey pepperoni.
9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
10. Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
