Fantastic garlic flatbreads

Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat for a healthier option)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (plus extra for brushing)
- ¾ cup warm water (you may need a little more or less)
- 3-4 cloves garlic, finely minced (or use garlic powder for convenience)
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for extra flavor)
- Salt to taste, for sprinkling
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Add the olive oil and warm water. Stir to combine, and then knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic. You can add more water if the dough feels too dry.
- Once the dough is ready, cover it with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes.
2. Make the Garlic Butter:
- While the dough is resting, melt the butter (if using) in a small saucepan over low heat.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, just until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
- If you’re using garlic powder, you can skip the sautéing and simply combine it with the olive oil in the next step.
3. Roll Out the Flatbreads:
- Once the dough has rested, divide it into 4 equal portions (or more for smaller flatbreads).
- On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into a flat, round shape about 6-8 inches in diameter. You can roll them thinner or thicker based on your preference.
4. Cook the Flatbreads:
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and lightly coat with olive oil.
- Place one rolled-out flatbread into the hot pan and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown spots form, and the bread is cooked through. Repeat with the rest of the dough.
5. Add the Garlic Topping:
- As soon as the flatbreads come off the skillet, brush them with the garlic butter or olive oil, and sprinkle with fresh parsley (optional).
- For extra garlic flavor, you can brush the tops with a little more olive oil or melted butter and sprinkle with salt.
6. Serve:
- Serve the garlic flatbreads warm as a side dish, with a dipping sauce like tzatziki, hummus, or even a tomato-based dip.
Tips & Variations:
- Add Herbs: Try adding a teaspoon of dried oregano, thyme, or rosemary to the dough for extra flavor.
- Cheese: For a cheesy twist, sprinkle some grated mozzarella or Parmesan over the flatbreads while they are still hot.
- Vegan Option: Skip the butter and use extra olive oil for a dairy-free version.
- Stuffed Flatbreads: If you want to turn these into stuffed flatbreads, you can add cheese, spinach, or other fillings before cooking.
