INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound 80/20 ground chuck (beef)
  • kosher salt
  • fresh ground black pepper
  • 6 cheddar cheese slices (alternatively, you can use another type of cheese)
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • Toppings: lettuce, tomatoes, onion, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the flat-top griddle to high heat. Alternatively, you can use a cast iron skillet.
  2. Divide beef into 6 equal portions, about 2 to 3 ounces each.
  3. Roll each portion into a ball. 
  4. Place meat on the hot flat-top griddle and smash with a large metal spatula.
  5. Season generously with salt and pepper. 
  6. Cook smash burgers until browned, about 1-2 minutes.
  7. Flip and top with a slice of cheddar cheese.
  8. Continue cooking until the edges and bottom of the smash burgers are browned, about 1 minute.
  9. Serve smash burgers with your favorite toppings and enjoy.
