🌶️🥩 Spicy Stir-Fried Beef with Onions and Chilies

⏱️ Ready in: 25 minutes

🍽️ Serves: 2–3

Ingredients:

For the beef:

  • 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
  • ½ tsp black pepper

For the stir-fry:

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3–5 fresh red or green chilies, sliced (adjust to your heat tolerance)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, minced or grated
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp dark soy sauce (for color, optional)
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • Optional: sliced green onions or fresh cilantro for garnish

🍳 Instructions:

1. Marinate the Beef:

  • In a bowl, mix beef slices with soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, sesame oil, and black pepper.
  • Let it marinate for at least 10–15 minutes while prepping other ingredients.

2. Prep Veggies:

  • Slice onions, chilies, and mince garlic and ginger.

3. Stir-Fry the Beef:

  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a hot wok or large skillet.
  • Sear the marinated beef in batches (don’t overcrowd). Cook 2–3 minutes until browned, then remove and set aside.

4. Cook Aromatics and Veggies:

  • In the same pan, add another 1 tbsp oil.
  • Stir-fry onion, garlic, ginger, and chilies over medium-high heat until onions are slightly soft and chilies fragrant (about 2–3 minutes).

5. Combine & Sauce:

  • Return beef to the pan. Add 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp oyster sauce, dark soy (if using), and sugar.
  • Toss everything together for 1–2 minutes until coated and glossy.

6. Serve:

  • Garnish with green onions or cilantro if desired.
  • Serve hot over steamed rice or with noodles.
