Vegan BBQ Tofu

Vegan BBQ Tofu Recipe
Ingredients:
- 14 oz (400g) extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 1/2 cup barbecue sauce (check for a vegan option)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for a gluten-free option)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Cooking spray or oil for grilling or baking
Instructions:
- Start by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Place the tofu between two clean kitchen towels or layers of paper towels. Put a heavy object, like a cast-iron skillet or a can, on top of the tofu and let it press for at least 30 minutes. This helps the tofu absorb the marinade and become firmer.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the barbecue sauce, soy sauce, minced garlic, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to make the barbecue marinade.
- Once the tofu is pressed, cut it into cubes or slices and place it in a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the tofu, making sure the tofu is well-coated. Cover and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes or longer for better flavor. You can even marinate it overnight in the refrigerator.
- Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat. If you’re using a grill, make sure to oil the grates to prevent sticking. If using an oven, preheat to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Grill or bake the tofu for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until it’s nicely charred and has grill marks.
- While grilling or baking, baste the tofu with additional marinade for extra flavor.
- Serve your Vegan BBQ Tofu with your favorite sides, such as grilled vegetables, coleslaw, or corn on the cob.
